Since I opened my blog, I always write something about psychology, and never write about my emotional life. Many people and my friends who viewed my blog would say:"Each time I browse your blog, I read nothing but knowledge of psychology. Why not share with your friends your emotional life?"
Actually, I am willing to write about my emotional life. On one hand, it helps to relieve my pressure; on the other hand, it makes people understand me and my career better. Since I am busy, I don't have time to do it until now. It is a bit late but I hope you don't mind.
Now, let me begin by introducing my career as a psychiatric consultant. Many people, when chatting with me, would say:"It is better to be a psychiatric consultant, for a psychiatric consultant can control his mood easily. He can calm himself down and come back to earth when exciting things happen, or adjust his mentality quickly to face unpleasant things with a tranquil mind." However, this is far from true. Like an ordinary person, a psychiatric consultant has his own view on world and life, his own perception on things around him, and his own feelings. But the difference lies in that a psychiatric consutant knows better how to adjust his mentality and makes himself calm down more quickly. Still, many people hold the opinion a psychiatric consultant is a mystery and can know what other people are thinking just by glancing at them. while in reality,he is not as wonderful and unpredictable as many people think he is.
One day, I ran into a friend online. When we began to talk, his asked me immediately:"Do you know what I am thinking?" I smiled and explained to him:"I hope you understand that psychiatric consulting is scientific, not superstitious or metaphysical. A psychiatric consultant can explore ideas and feelings deep in your heart as long as he has your personal data, which is a prerequisite."
Many people, who come to consult me would demand an immediate solution just after telling me their problems. Under these circumstances, I can only tell them clealy and slowly that psychiatric consulting is quite different from physical illness. The latter demonstrate itself by some symptoms, from which a physician can diagnose the illness and then treat it. While a psychiatric consultant has to analyse the causes first, according to which makes a plan to guide and adjust the patients, and to get the causes, the personal data are required.
So, whenver someone comes to consult me, I will tell him at the beginning that :"Psychiatric consulting includes three phases. The first phase is to collect materials ; the second to analyse the cause; and the third to guide and adjust,or rather, treat patients." Sometimes I meet some people who don't believe in psychiatric consultants(or psychologists), who, in their opinions, are to cheat them out of money by "simple chatting" without making plans to treat them. In fact, simple chatting is the preparatory stage which doesn't produce evident results. Not seeing that, they give up the treatment. When meeting these people, I tend to introduce the process of psychiatric consulting to them, and meanwhile, I feel disappointed in and sympathetic to their original psychiatric consultants.
I sincerely hope that psychiatric consultants will disperse some prejudice against psychiatric consulting beforehand, which will help clients know it better and will in turn contribute to the guidance and adjustment.
